Our homeschool cooperative is designed for families with children ages two years old through twelve years old. We offer care Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Kekere Co-op is proud and humbled to be grown from the ancestral land of the Anishinaabe people, commonly known as Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Kekere is inspired by the Freedom Schools of the Civil Rights Movement, the wisdom and resilience of our ancestors and love for our grandchildren’s grandchildren. Our community is specifically designed to affirm families which include Black children, Indigenous children, all children of the global majority and 2SLGBTQIA+ folks. All families who are committed to liberation and love are welcome in our community.
What kind of curriculum do you use?
We believe in learning that is self-directed and community-oriented and support children and families in delving deeply into their curiosities and passions. The world is our curriculum. We know, through research and lived experience, that play is the most essential work of the child. Our facilitators join young people in their playful work as co-learners and documentarians.
Our membership fees are $40 per day/per child. We are committed to equity in all aspects of our organization and our sliding scale is a reflection of those values. We ask families with financial privilege to contribute as close to $80 per day as possible, and families experiencing financial inequity contribute as close to $20 per day as possible.
